According to John Macionis, sociology is the systematic study of human societies.

 

Society referes to people who live within some terrirory and share many patterns of behavior.

 

As sociologists study society, they pay attention to culture, a way of life including widespread values (about what is good and bad), beliefs (about what is true), and behavior (what people do every day).
